EMT-B Practical- May 2008

For several months Riverton Fire and EMS held an EMT-B course at Riverton's Fire Station. This class not only benefits Riverton Fire and EMS because 5 members are enrolled in the course, but the surrounding communities with providing a smaller and more individualized class. Instructor and Captain Sara Fricke held a practical session on May 31st to evaluate students on the skill level. Firefighters' Memorial- May 2008

Members attended the Annual Illinois Firefighters' Memorial on Thursday May 15th. This event draws attention state wide and pays tribute to those that make the ultimate sacrifice of death on the job. Below are pictures from that event.

Fire Behavior- April 2008

On Wednesday Riverton Fire and EMS held a fire behavior class at a property that was donated to the fire department. This training taught basics in thermal barriers and the evolutions that fire inhibits.

The picture to the left shows a perfect reason why during a fire you should stay low and exit the building from the nearest exit. You will notice the smoke and "clean" air line distinctly.

Rope Operations- April 2008

Riverton members went through a basic rope operations class taught by Training Officer Balding on Wednesday, April 9th. Haul systems, basic knots, and basic rigging were covered topics.

Lucky Horse Fire- April 2008

Riverton Fire and EMS responded to a structure fire on Wednesday, April 2nd in Lucky Horseshoe Mobile Home Park. Fire Chief Louie Rogers arrived on scene to find a trailer with smoke issuing from the roof vents. Upon arrival of Riverton Engine 2 and after forcible entry into the front door firefighters found a fire in the living room and kitchen area. Fire damage was contained to the living room and kitchen with smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the structure.

12-Lead Course- March 2008

On Monday March 31st Riverton Fire and EMS EMT-B and EMT-P members attended a course on 12-Lead ECG course. This course was a basic entry class developed for placement of the 10 leads needed for ECGs. This class also covered basic interpretation. LLCC Extrication- March 2008

Riverton Fire and EMS hosted an extrication class for Instructor Chad Bates on Thursday the 27th. Lieutenant Franklin, Firefighter Peddycoart and Firefighter Suhling were on hand to help with both air bag and cribbing applications as well as basic extrication techniques. Special thanks to R and S towing for donate the two cars for this extrication class.

Easter Egg Hunt- March 2008

On the 21st of March Riverton Fire and EMS attended an Easter Egg Hunt for the Riverton Baptist Church. Riverton Fire gave tours of both Engine 2 and Squad 2 as well as helped place eggs for the hunt.

Lincoln Place Fire- January 2008

Riverton Fire and EMS responded to a structure fire in Lincoln Place Mobile Home Park. Riverton Fire as well as Sherman Fire were initially paged for a trailer fully engulfed. Fire Chief Louie Rogers then requested Dawson Fire for Mutual Aid and as he arrived on scene found a single wide trailer fully engulfed. Riverton remained on scene in below freezing temperatures until 2:30 AM on the 23rd until overhaul of the structure was complete. One person was home when the fire started and safely evacuated the trailer. The cause of the fire is still undetermined and the structure is determined to be a total loss.

Kinzie St. Fire- January 2008

Riverton Fire and EMS responded to a structure fire in Hilltop Trailer Park. Sherman Fire and Rescue also responded with a truck company.
